The Psychosocial Consultation

What questions and problems can we help with?

Every student can be confronted with smaller or larger difficulties and problems in the course of life and in the context of studies, which are perceived as overwhelming.

Maybe you feel down, suffer from lack of drive, concentration problems, time management difficulties, loss of motivation in your studies, lecture or exam anxiety, are very stressed or constantly worry.

Maybe you need help with final papers, with the delayed BAföG benefit or trying to get another attempt at exams.

Or maybe it's conflicts in your relationship or with your family, problematic eating behavior, bullying experiences or other psychological problems and disorders that are bothering you.

The number of possible topics is large. We are happy to offer you an appointment for an initial consultation and help you accordingly.

Our main areas of work

First and second consultation

You tell us what it is about. Maybe we can already find a solution in these first talks.

Referral and support

If necessary and desired, we will also refer you to other services, such as psychological/medical psychotherapists, psychiatrists, specific counseling centers or self-help groups.

It is important to us to ensure that you find the right form of support for you. We will also help you with the application to your health insurance company regarding the assumption of therapy costs for therapists who are not insured by the health insurance company. So that you get a therapy place as soon as possible.

Important notes

  • Please contact us by phone or mail to make further appointments
  • All information will be treated confidentially
  • The counseling service can also be used anonymously
  • Due to the very high demand, the counseling offer is unfortunately limited in time
  • The counseling is not to be confused with therapy

Consulting languages

Consultation by mail is possible in the following languages:

German, English

If you would like to be consulted in one of the above-mentioned languages other than English or German, please e-mail us in advance.

International Support Group »NO WORRIES«

You are a University of Bonn student or doctoral student from abroad and are only too familiar with problems like culture shock, homesickness and stress related to your studies? The No Worries Group is a place where you can talk to fellow students and learn from each other’s experiences.

What is the No Worries Group?

Living abroad and studying in a different educational system naturally comes with many unfamiliar situations and can at times also pose problems. Even if it may be difficult to start with, talking about it usually helps. The group is jointly organized by the AStA’s Department for International Students and the International Office. Everyone is welcome to discuss helpful strategies and ideas and get actively involved in the group meetings.

Who can join and how to register?

All University of Bonn students and doctoral students from abroad are welcome to join. Participation is free. Register here!

What does a group meeting look like?

Following feedback provided by (doctoral) students, sessions in winter semester 2021/22 are focused on well-being. While some events establish a morning routine, we also offer talks on self-confidence, toxic positivity and mindfulness. Learn more here

When and where does the No Worries Group meet?

During the semester, events take place every week—online only during the current pandemic.

All dates and Zoom links will be posted on Facebook. Learn more here
